Fat freezing works by targeting and cooling fat cells to a temperature that triggers their natural death. The procedure uses controlled cooling technology to freeze the fat cells without causing harm to the surrounding tissues. Over time, the body naturally eliminates the frozen fat cells, resulting in a more sculpted and contoured appearance.

Fat freezing can be used to target areas such as the abdomen, flanks (love handles), thighs, upper arms, back, and double chin. It is most effective in areas with pinchable fat.

Fat freezing is not a weight loss treatment but a body contouring procedure. It is designed to reduce localized fat deposits and improve body shape. It is important to note that fat freezing is not a solution for obesity or significant weight loss. It is best suited for individuals who are close to their ideal weight and have stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise.

Be sure to shave the target area the morning of or the day before your treatment, leaving the hair no longer than 2 millimetres. Shaving removes the majority of hair but leaves a small portion in the follicle to absorb the laser energy. Cleanse your skin with soap and water, and do not use any lotion, deodorant or perfume on the area.

During a fat freezing session, you will be comfortably positioned while the targeted area is exposed to controlled cooling. The procedure is generally well-tolerated, and you may experience a sensation of intense cold, mild pulling, or tugging. Many clinics offer amenities to make the session more comfortable, such as providing blankets or allowing you to watch TV or read.

After fat freezing, you may experience temporary side effects such as redness, bruising, numbness, or mild discomfort in the treated area. These side effects typically resolve on their own within a few days to weeks.

After four to six months, the fat in your target area should have decreased by around 20 to 30 percent.

Areas with larger amounts of fat may take longer, so your clinician may recommend further procedures to get the results you want.

Before the treatment.

At your consultation, they will explain more about the treatment, make some assessments and outline how many sessions you’ll need, and confirm the cost.

During the treatment

Your clinician will apply a vacuum-like nozzle to the target area – which can cause a slightly uncomfortable tugging feeling at first. But the vacuum will soon get cold, and the area will feel numb. This process will last around 30 minutes to an hour.

Aftercare

There might be a little tightness and soreness straight after the procedure, but there are very few side effects of cryolipolysis. You’ll be fine to resume work, exercise, and any other activities on the same day.
